Sustainability

At South Street Kitchen we're serious about environmental sustainability. We strive to provide an affordable and enjoyable experience which doesn’t cost the earth.

Locally Roasted Coffee

Our current beans are locally roasted by Dark Woods Coffee in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. Coffee has already produced enough air miles, so we decided to minimise any further travel by sourcing locally roasted beans.

Ethical Produce

We aim to buy as much organic food and drink as we can in order to keep our environment clean of pesticides and herbicides. We buy from local ethical suppliers, such as Suma near Halifax and Lembas in Sheffield, both of which are cooperatives. Buying from independent local business is also at the heart of our project. For example, all of our bottled beers come from breweries in Sheffield and the North of England.

Compostable Containers

Plastic takeaway packaging poses a real threat to our environment. At South Street Kitchen, we welcome people bringing their own containers to take our food away with them. If not we can provide you with fully compostable containers and cups.

Green Clean

The hospitality industry is known for using harsh chemicals to keep cleaning cheap. We believe that you can maintain a clean and hygienic café without covering it with bleach. Wherever possible we use cleaning products made by Ecover or other green suppliers, which ensure that we’re not flushing dangerous chemicals into our environment.
